The Blue Economy Company Index (BECdex) is an international standard and toolkit for identifying and certifying maritime companies that are operating their businesses in accordance with the blue economy's guiding principles.
Blue International Certification Center (BICC), a certification authority, administers the BECdex certification procedure.
To achieve certification, companies must first register and then follow the certification process by submitting the required documents and then paying a certification fee of USD 1,500. After the assessment and verification process is complete, the company will receive an e-certificate labeled Standard (score: 70-78), Good (score: 80-88), or Excellent (score: 90-100) Blue Economy Company.

The BECdex assessment is carried out objectively, periodically, and transparently for the maritime companies being evaluated.
BICC assesses company official documents—such as Annual Reports, Sustainability Reports, and Code of Ethics—using 50 indicators that cover:
Assessment of marine ecosystem protection, energy efficiency, and marine pollution prevention.
Refers to biodiversity conservation, waste management, and compliance with maritime regulations.
Assessment of protection of labor rights, gender equality, and occupational health and safety (OHS) standards.
The final BECdex score requires further verification of the Desk Research score. The verification process is carried out by BICC auditor team by conducting:
Visiting the company's operational locations to verify documents against real conditions in the field.
Conducting interviews with management, workers, and local communities to validate social and environmental impacts.
Methodology development is carried out with experts who have years of experience in social human rights, environment, and anti-corruption fields. We collaborate to ensure credible and accurate results.
